Toshiba
Endorses Trek's Thumbdrive Solutions
Trek licenses
patented solutions to Toshiba
SINGAPORE, (27 July 2004)
— Mainboard listed engineering solutions provider, Trek 2000
International Ltd (“Trek” or “the Company”) today announced
that it has executed a license agreement with Toshiba Corporation of
Japan under its ThumbDrive related patents.
The agreement includes the grant of
license without allowing for sub-license by Trek to Toshiba and its
subsidiaries of a non-exclusive worldwide license under such Trek
Patents for the manufacture and sale of external USB storage
devices.
As Toshiba has a long business
relation with Trek on the supply of the prominent NAND FLASH MEMORY
chips, this latest agreement will further enhance and strengthen the
business collaboration between both companies. The continued
strategic supply of the NAND FLASH MEMORY chips, is expected to help
to establish a new milestone toward the objective of growing each
company's business.
Presently, Trek has a total of 23
patents registered in more than 65 countries globally for its
ThumbDrive solutions. A total of 3 patents have been approved in
more than 25 countries. Technology licensing is a natural
progression for Trek as its patents obtain rapid approvals in
different countries around the world.
Commenting on the latest
developments, Mr Henn Tan, Chairman and CEO of Trek said: “We are
very proud that our ThumbDrive Technology is gaining rapid
recognition from major IT leaders. Being a powerful international
name, Toshiba’s recognition of Trek’s ThumbDrive solution is an
important endorsement for us as well as a clear reflection of the
organisation’s respect for intellectual property rights
protection. It is also particularly encouraging to the research and
development industry as it serves as an assurance that intellectual
property rights are fast gaining respect and acceptance by
governments, businesses and consumers globally.”
“The strategic supply of the NAND
FLASH MEMORY is also important to Trek and with such strong support
from Toshiba, Trek is poised to escalate itself to another new phase
of growth. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Toshiba
for their recognition and support to ensure that only intellectual
property protected products are manufactured and sold to consumers
around the world. This philosophy is a clear mark of a truly
reputable global leader whose success is built upon integrity and
professionalism.” Said Mr Henn Tan.
Stemming from the recent equity
investment to 5.86% by Toshiba in Trek, this latest move today
further solidifies the relationship between both companies.
This transaction is expected to
contribute to the financial position of the Company in FY2004.
None of the directors or
controlling shareholders of the Company has any interest, direct or
indirect, in the above transaction.
