Trek 2000 receives second patent approval
for its biometric ThumbDrive solution
Trek’s biometric technology to be used in a broad range of applications
SAN RAMON, Calif. (May 6, 2003) – Trek 2000, parent company of Trekstor USA, announced today that The Registry of Patents Singapore (IPOS) has granted a patent for its biometric ThumbDrive Touch, a portable storage device with biometrics-based authentication capabilities. The patent for its biometrics solution is the second patent to be received by the Group. The first patent for their original ThumbDrive solution was granted by IPOS on 16 April 2002.
“This is the second patent we have obtained for our ThumbDrive solutions. It enables us to further expand the capabilities of this solution to meet a broad range of needs in the security and encryption market,” said Trek 2000 Chairman and CEO, Henn Tan. “The biometric or finger print authentication solution is the new trend in the IT world, as both consumers and businesses become increasingly aware of the importance of data protection and access control.”
Trek’s data protection technology is helping contain the current SARS outbreak. Singapore has developed Thermal Imaging Scanners in response to the need for a temperature detector to help control a SARS virus outbreak. Trek’s biometric solution enhances the security protection features in the equipment – expediting its adaptation for commercial use.
“Our involvement in the Thermal Imaging Scanners project demonstrates how Trek’s powerful and adaptable solutions can impact many aspects of our daily lives,” said Tan.
ThumbDrive Touch’s enhanced security features can also be used with vertical applications to lock other applications in personal computers, VPNs and many other technical systems requiring high levels of data protection and security.
The driverless ThumbDrive Touch is an enhanced version of Trek’s original ThumbDrive device. ThumbDrive Touch is enhanced with a biometric or fingerprint authentication feature providing additional security for data protection. Instead of a password, ThumbDrive Touch uses biometric fingerprint recognition technology to authenticate its user.
Measuring just 64 x 21 x 10 millimeters and weighing a mere 30 grams, ThumbDrive Touch epitomizes plug-and-play and is ideal for mobile users who have trouble remembering passwords. Simply plug in ThumbDrive Touch, verify your fingerprint and start transferring files. This makes it easier than ever to move data from one PC to another. ThumbDrive Touch allows one administrator and up to three others for shared use of one device. It’s available in multiple configurations between 8MB -1GB.
Trek 2000 has filed patent registration for this biometrics ThumbDrive across selected PCT countries and is currently waiting for the approvals from the different respective legislations.
