SMART work in Mac OS 8.6?
1. What is a
Thumbdrive?
Thumbdrive is your digital lockbox,
storing your personal records, digital photos and music. Imagine a USB
floppy drive and disk integrated, only more secure, more durable, and at
less than one tenth in physical size, packing up to 350 times in capacity.
Because thumbdrive does not have any moving parts, it is extremely
resistant to vibrations and shocks. Thumbdrive acts just like your hard
drive. You can drag and drop files onto it, create, edit, delete files
even formatting it.
2. What operating systems can
Thumbdrive
operate on?
Thumbdrive works in Windows 98, SE (Second Edition), ME, 2000, XP and Mac
OS 8.6, 9.0 or higher. New drivers are made available for download at
http://www.trekstorusa.com/downloads.htm
3. Can Thumbdrive be affected by
computer virus?
ThumbDrive is designed to work like a typical hard drive so that users can
use it without training. As such, thumbdrive like hard drive and floppy,
can become vulnerable to virus. Fortunately, thumbdrive is automatically
protected when the PC is installed with any leading anti-virus software
and updated virus definition files.
4. Will Thumbdrive work on my PC/Mac?
Thumbdrive works on most PC and Mac platforms with USB support.
Nevertheless we recommend that users check with the manufacturer of their
PCs on USB 1.1 compatibility.
5. I just bought a second Thumbdrive. Do I need to
repeat the setup process?
Once the PC or Mac is setup to work with Thumbdrive, you do
not need to repeat setup for additional thumbdrives.
6. Why do I need a ThumbDrive?
Some ideas on how you can use the Thumbdrive.
- PASS KEY - Store your passwords and
sensitive data away from your computer until you are present and
plugged in. The only safe password storage you need.
- LOCK BOX - Secure your most important
writing, financial data and personal information in the Thumbdrive.
Leave no trace on the computer for others to uncover.
- POWER POINTER - Carry your Power Point
presentations in your pocket. Instantly play them on any computer that
has the necessary software during meetings.
- FLOPPY REPLACEMENT - No more worries
about vibration and magnetic fields. No more spanning a file over
multiple disks. With Thumbdrive, you can now store your favorite
utilities and tools all in one small and robust package.
- PC-MAC BRIDGE - We all know the pain
to transfer a file from a PC to a Mac. Thumbdrive eliminates that by
providing a fast and easy way to transfer data across the 2 platforms
- HOME OFFICE - Need to bring work home?
You do not need to carry your notebook anymore. Just backup what you
need to the Thumbdrive and take it home.
These are just some examples of what some
of our customers are using Thumbdrive for. For more ideas and
applications, go to www.trekstorusa.com/applications.htm
7. Can I use
Thumbdrive as a bootdisk?
Thumbdrive SMART, to be released in early 2002, is supported by the
latest BIOS versions as a bootable device. We recommend that you contact
your BIOS vendor to check for USB bootability. 8.
Can I protect my files from
accidental deletion?
Thumbdrive has a write protection switch at the bottom end. When switch
is in the "unlocked" position, you can write data to the
Thumbdrive. When switch is "locked", you can only read from the
Thumbdrive.
9. How long can
Thumbdrive maintain the integrity of the stored data?
Data stored in Thumbdrives can last about ten years without losing any
integrity.
10. How do I read
the LED?
The LED is lit when the Thumbdrive is inserted to your PC. This confirms
the connectivity between Thumbdrive and the PC. The LED starts blinking
the moment you initiate a file transfer, e.g. dragging and dropping a file
from your PC to the Thumbdrive. DO NOT REMOVE THE Thumbdrive during a
write operation as this may cause loss of data.
11. Can a ThumbDrive be shared over a
LAN (Local Area Network)?
Thumbdrive can be accessed over a network to enable sharing of data among
multiple users.
12. What is the difference between the
ThumbDrive and a USB hard disk drive?
A USB hard disk drive is heavier and more bulky. It is also vulnerable to
shocks and vibrations due to its internal moving parts. Thumbdrive is
smaller and lighter. Thumbdrive does not have any moving parts and that makes it
ideal for mobile use. 13.
Does the ThumbDrive SMART work in Mac OS 8.6?
There is no device driver required for ThumbDrive SMART to work in Mac
OS 8.6. However you need to make sure that your Mac OS 8.6 is installed
with USB Mass Storage Support 1.3.5. To do that, please visit Apple's
website at http://docs.info.apple.com/article2.html?artnum=60394&SaveKCWindowURL=http%3
